Frequently Asked Questions
HOW IT WORKS
Measure your Project
We provide a free, no hassle and obligation free quote for your project. We setup a time to take measurements and do a quick consult with you about what you are looking for in your Schmear project.
Choose a Style
There are three main styles to choose from. We consider them to be light, medium, and heavy Schmear. There is a fourth style that is “grout lines only” available as well. Each style has different pricing for labor and material.
Complete the Project
We will come out early in the morning and tape off, protect, and prepare the worksite. We will touch each brick many times as we put your chosen artistic style on the Schmear project. Jobs take between 1-8 days.
lifetime guarantee
You might have a brick replaced by a handyman or decided to change your wall sconce to a different style. There might be a runaway golf cart that runs into your beautiful schmear work. At any rate, this will probably need a touch up. We will come back to do those touch ups (reasonable size) at no charge. Any larger work due to damage or remodel will need to be quoted separately.
WHAT TO EXPECT
FAQs
How long does it last?
German Schmear is permanent and will last a lifetime. Since it is a mortar product, it it will last as long as the mortar holding your brick together, and that’s been known to last hundreds of years! Constant water or sprinklers will erode it over time, so it’s best to keep the water at bay to keep it looking great for years to come.
Does it fade?
German Schmear will not fade at all. The color is not a tint, it is a white aggregate stone that is crushed to make the color so it will never need to be re-coated or sealed either!
How is maintenance?
Because German Schmear is not a tinted product you will never have to do maintenace to keep it looking new. It is a white aggregate stone that’s crushed to make the color so it will never need to be re-coated or sealed either. Maintenance is as easy as washing it with a hose every once in awhile just to wash the dust off.
Do you replace broken or misplaced bricks?
Our crew is happy to help secure loose bricks, but we don’t replace bricks that have been lost or completely broken. It’s best to have a mason come take care of that before we arrive.
How long does a job take?
Each job is different, but most fireplaces can be done in a day or less and the average home is roughly 3-4 days. We will meticulosity tape off and put plastic around the job site to keep it clean and ensure everything is cleaned up before we leave. Our crew will literally touch each brick a minimum of 4 times during the process, so good things take time. Initial dry time is only a few hours but will be 100% dry in 1-2 days.
Can German Shmear be removed?
Since German Schmear is a mortar, it can be removed only with muriatic acid. This means that if you have an area that needs to be lightened with more brick showing, this is possible, however a total removal of the mortar is not possible since it is meant to be a permanent solution.
What if I don't like it?
Our process should mitigate the possibility of not liking your German Schmear final appearance. We will have you review previous jobs and confirm the style you are looking for. After that, we will have you check the first portion of the job as we get going so you can confirm the style matches your taste. After that, we can go back and touch up certain areas for uniformity if necessary. Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction and so far we’ve never had a customer not love their home’s transformation.
What types of payment do you accept?
To book your date you will pay a 50% deposit and the balance is due before we leave your job. We accept online payment through our payment processor via ACH bank account transfer, Zelle, cash or check. Sorry, no credit cards are accepted.
